This was a learning experience from me and my client. Like I've mentioned in my final report, it is important to establish rapport and develop trust before beginning of teaching and maintain a warm, and sincere attitude. As such, both of us became comfortable with each other. On the last day, my client said that she will miss me and I can sense that she was somewhat sad that it was my last day with her. I encouraged and motivated her in doing her exercise regimen so that hopefully, one day, we will see each other at the mall, at the park or even at the casino. I'm so happy to hear that her daughter will take her to the casino this weekend. Going to the casino is one of her goals. I encouraged her to use her right hand to press on the button of the slot machine. She thought that it's a good idea to have a bit of exercise for her right hand/arm while having fun as well. i could have done more with her but thing have come to an end. I truly hope that she will be able to regain her strength and that she continues to get regular visits from nursing students. I'm so glad to work with this sweet lady.

Well, the three weeks are over. It has been a very good experience for both the client and me. I forget that when you set out to teach another, you always learn something in the bargain. So what did I learn? I learned to pay more attention to non-verbal cues that there may be something going on in the background. I found that once I stepped back, I could see what was really going on, and what the key issues were. Ultimately, this made it a lot easier to see what the root of the problem was, and helped me find a way to best approach the client’s concerns. As a result, I think we got a lot farther with her, and helped to put some of her concerns at ease. For my client there were legitimate trust issues as barriers to learning. She had been living in her home on her own and didn’t want strangers coming in who might decide that she was at risk living by herself. Once she understood we were there to help her stay in her home and remain independent, her cooperation and participation greatly increased. In fact, she is eager to continue her exercises and would like to continue receiving visits. I really hope she keeps up with the good work!

My client is a 68 yrs. old female who is so happy been in this program. She has been in this program for almost one year. She is very motivated and organized to follow up with her physician and doing her routine exercise. She was a RN for 15 years and she also was very knowledgeable regarding her condition and medication. She had all her medication recorded and also when I check the routine exercise paper I noticed that she has been doing the exercises that been advice and charted on the exercise sheet. She mention that she did the exercise as much as she tolerated since she had bad knee pain.
I showed her all the brochures and she was really interested to one of the program called Senior Consulting Program, and Caregiver Support Services program. Client has been informed about Importance of using Vitamin D and hydration.
